box drawings light double dash vertical

Thin vertical line with two dashes

79/128

╎ is a thin dashed vertical line for drawing borders and dividers with text. Each character contains two short strokes, one above the other: “double dash” means two segments, not two parallel lines. Stack it in the same column on successive lines to make a taller divider.

What ╎ means

╎ belongs to the box-drawing characters: line and corner pieces that let you build a diagram or frame using text. “Light” describes its thin stroke. You can use it as the dashed side of a frame or as a boundary between columns; repeating it across a row produces separate vertical marks, not a taller line.

This way of drawing comes from older computer displays that arranged characters in fixed cells. Before 1990, terminals already used box-drawing characters to make lines and frames without separate images.

Why does the divider look uneven?

The font and line spacing affect the pattern.

Use a monospaced font—one that gives characters equal widths—with support for box-drawing characters. Keep each ╎ in the same column. Extra line spacing can add larger gaps between rows; the small gaps within the character are intentional. If you see a replacement box, the font may lack this character.
