What 𑁬 means
It marks six as a decimal digit.
Brahmi numerals appear in Ashoka’s inscriptions from the third century BCE; Sasaram’s 256 count is read as nights on tour and uses older additive signs, not 𑁬. Later digits used place value: each digit’s position gives its value. The wider Indian numeral tradition continued through Gupta and Nagari forms toward modern digits. As of 2026, the earliest signs’ origin remains unsettled; Kharosthi and Egyptian links are proposals.
