What Ꭼ means
Ꭼ represents one Cherokee syllable, romanized as gv.
The v is a guide to a nasalized vowel, not the English letter name; some learning materials write the syllable as kv. A Cherokee Reader lesson gives ᎬᎿᎨ (gvhnage) for “black,” showing Ꭼ inside a word.
How do I type Ꭼ?
Choose a Cherokee keyboard layout that suits your input method.
On a phonetic layout, enter gv; on a one-key layout, each keystroke enters one syllabary character.
If a box appears instead of the character, the active font may lack Cherokee support. The small form ꭼ is case-linked to Ꭼ; its size does not give it a different syllable value.
Why does Ꭼ look like a Latin letter?
Its shape does not tell you its sound: in Cherokee, it represents gv.
The Cherokee syllabary was created by Sequoyah so Cherokee speech could be written. In 1827, Samuel Worcester and Cherokee collaborators standardized the print arrangement; the visible forms could change while the syllable values stayed the same.
The Cherokee Nation adopted the syllabary in 1825. The bilingual Cherokee Phoenix began printing in 1828, carrying news, laws, and public debate in Cherokee and English.
Ꭼ is a writing character; its meaning comes from the Cherokee syllable and the word around it.

2Questions people ask
1Why does Ꭼ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Cherokee block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
