What ꮣ means
Read ꮣ as da inside Cherokee words. A syllabary sign represents a spoken syllable, rather than one consonant or vowel by itself. ꮣ and Ꮣ have the same syllable value; the difference is case.
Some shapes were adapted from printed models, but Sequoyah assigned them Cherokee syllable values. Later type designers adjusted the forms for printing.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꮣ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
