What 像 means
It stands for 像, a Chinese character for image or likeness. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early character dictionary, analyzes 像 as the person component 人 plus 象, which serves as a sound cue. The Huainanzi uses 像 for outward form; later Chinese examples include portraits, resemblance, and “like.” CNS 11643 is Taiwan’s text-interchange standard; T6 identifies its sixth plane.
Its role is preserving a Taiwan character code across text conversions.
For ordinary Chinese writing, use 像; normalization may replace 像.
