What 卽 means
NFKC and NFKD change 卽 into 卽.
These Unicode compatibility-cleanup forms fold variants to help match text; NFC and NFD leave 卽 intact. Keep it when the original encoded form matters.
Taiwan's 2024 Ministry of Education variant dictionary lists 卽 and 卽 under 即, whose senses include “approach,” “at once,” and “that is,” and cites older Chinese character dictionaries such as Shuowen Jiezi and Yupian. Taiwan's CNS 11643 computer code for Chinese text expanded from two character planes to seven in 1992; 卽 is source T6-2F3D in plane 6. Unicode's supplement preserves mappings from CNS planes 3–7 and 15 for conversion back and forth.

Questions people ask
1Why does 卽 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
