What 尢 means
It represents 尢, glossed as “a person with a bent lower leg.” The Eastern Han Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, describes the shape as bent. The 1716 Kangxi Dictionary lists 尢 among its 214 radicals, parts used to group character entries.
Why does 尢 have a separate code point?
It preserves Taiwan’s CNS source slot for round-trip conversion. Taiwan’s CNS 11643 assigns it to T4-2134 in its 1992 edition. Text normalization, a cleanup step, can fold it into 尢; the standardized sequence 尢 followed by UFE00, a variation selector, requests this variant glyph where fonts support it.

Questions people ask
1Why does 尢 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
