What 帽 means
Read it as 帽: “hat” or “cap.”
Taiwan Mandarin also uses 帽 for an object’s cap, like a pen cap. In Japanese, 帽子 (bōshi) means “hat”; a text dated 1394–1428 uses the older reading mōsu for a Zen monk’s hood.
Why is 帽 separate from 帽?
It preserves one source-set position.
CNS 11643-1992 lists T6-483C on plane six. That mapping lets text convert to Unicode and back to the CNS position; 1992 dates the encoding, not 帽 itself.
