What 𢛔 means
It preserves an older encoding distinction. The supplement supports round-trip conversion with CNS 11643-1992, Taiwan’s Chinese text standard: older text can move into Unicode and back without losing which standard character it used. 𢛔 maps to 𢛔. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education dictionary gives 𢛔 the Mandarin reading dōng and glosses it as “foolish.”
In 2021, a Unicode review separated Taiwan’s CNS entry T6-487C from this mapping after finding its glyph distinct; that form later received its own character, 𱞫 .
Treat it as an archival compatibility form, not ordinary Han text.
Normalization can replace it with 𢛔, erasing the exact code point.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𢛔 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
