What 慌 means
It represents 慌, not a different word.
Mandarin 慌 (huāng) means fear, anxiety, or hurried confusion. A Han-era note on Chu Ci, a classical poetry collection, records 慌 as a variant of 荒 in a line about a hazy, distant view.
Taiwan’s CNS 11643 is a Chinese text interchange standard. In 1992 it expanded to include planes for variants; this form is T6-526C. Unicode kept that source position for conversion to Unicode and back without losing its original code.

Questions people ask
1Will Unicode normalization change 慌?
Yes. Unicode normalization, a text-cleanup step, changes this compatibility character to its unified form, so its separate code can disappear. The standardized sequence 慌︀ adds an invisible selector to request the variant glyph when the font supports it.
