What 敬 means
It preserves one source character form.
Taiwan’s CNS 11643:1992 character set places it at T6-4957 in plane 6 and maps it to 敬. This source variant lets character data round-trip.
Bronze inscriptions show the older form 茍 behind 敬, expressing solemn respect; the early Chinese character dictionary Shuowen glosses 敬 as “solemn.” Later bamboo texts sometimes borrowed 敬 by sound for “warn” or “stay on guard.” In Mandarin, 敬 means respect and appears in polite offerings such as 敬茶. Japanese reads it kei/uyamau; Korean Hanja reads it gyeong.

Questions people ask
1Why does 敬 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
