What 舁 means
It is an encoded variant of 舁, meaning “raise together.”
The Shuowen Jiezi, a dictionary from the Han dynasty, glosses 舁 as “raise together.” It describes the old seal-script form, an early standardized writing style, as four hands lifting in concert.
In Japanese, 舁く (kaku) means carrying a load on the shoulders together; a 913 text records the verb. A figurative sense, “deceive,” is attested around 1790–91.
Unicode retains the separate code so old character data can make a round trip—convert into Unicode and back—without losing the distinction.

Questions people ask
1Will Unicode normalization preserve 舁?
No. Normalization maps 舁 to 舁. The standardized sequence 舁︁ records its glyph variant separately; displaying that distinction depends on font support.

舁\2F98BWhy is 舁 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
