What 若 means
The glyph is a CNS-specific form used for the character 若.
The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary compiled around 100 CE, glosses 若 as “selecting greens”; later senses include “like,” “if,” and “you.” Hokkien, a language spoken in Taiwan, also uses 若 for “like/as if.”
Taiwan’s CNS 11643 encoding standard records it as CNS 6-2E24 in a 2007 variant list. Unicode included it in 2001 for two-way conversion.
Why does 若 become 若?
Normalization turns it into 若.
The standardized sequence 若︁ (若 UFE01) preserves the glyph distinction through normalization when supported.

Questions people ask
1Why does 若 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
