What 䕫 means
It is a compatibility form of 䕫.
By 1716, the Kangxi Dictionary recorded 䕫. Chinese dictionaries link it to 夔, a legendary one-legged creature and Shun’s court musician.
Why can normalization change it?
Normalization replaces 䕫 with 䕫.
Unicode normalization standardizes text it considers equivalent; here, it changes the stored code point. The sequence 䕫︀ (䕫 plus an invisible variation selector) requests the corresponding glyph variant. Compatibility ideographs are reserved for round-trip conversion with older character sets.
Why did Hong Kong remap H-8FA8?
The HKSCS target changed to 𧃰 in 2018.
Hong Kong's Supplementary Character Set (HKSCS) grew from a 1995 government set of locally needed Chinese characters and expanded for community use in 1999. Its H-8FA8 mapping moved from 䕫 to 𧃰 because normalized 䕫 was absent from the set.

Questions people ask
1Why does 䕫 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
