賁 variant form

Text symbol

What 賁 means

It is a written variant of 賁, not a separate word.

Chinese dictionaries give 賁 several senses, including adornment and moving swiftly; its reading and the surrounding words determine which one is intended. This variant adds no new sense.

Why was 賁 encoded separately?

To preserve a Taiwan CNS source entry during text conversion.

Taiwan’s CNS 11643-1992 is a national character encoding standard. This form is entry T6-585C on plane 6, one numbered section of its character set. A Unicode proposal in 2000 called for compatibility characters so systems could convert CNS text to Unicode and back without collapsing distinct entries.

Can text normalization preserve 賁’s exact form?

No. Unicode normalization maps 賁 to 賁. To request the standardized variant in text, write 賁 followed by variation selector UFE00 as 賁︀; a font that supports the sequence can display the variant.
