What 郞 means
It encodes 郞, a Chinese-derived character for a man or gentleman.
Older dictionaries also list an official title. An entry in the Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary from the Han dynasty, glosses 郎 as a pavilion in Lu (a place name) and analyzes it as 邑, the settlement component, plus 良, which supplies its sound.
A South Korean personal-name list from 2015 includes 郞 under the Korean reading 랑.
Why was FA2E encoded separately?
It preserves a Korean source-code mapping. FA2E maps to K0-522B in KS X 1001, a Korean character standard. Unicode notes that an earlier assignment, UF92C, had an incorrect canonical mapping that could not be changed, so the source mapping was moved to FA2E. Unicode 6.1 dates this encoding, not the Han character.
Normalization can convert 郞 to 郞. A Korean Hanja converter, which turns a Korean reading into Chinese-character forms, may offer several characters for 랑, so it does not uniquely select FA2E. The displayed shape also depends on the font.
Technical and archival: this form preserves a Korean legacy character mapping.

Questions people ask
3Is 郞 an emoji?
No. It is a text character, and its visible shape comes from the font used to display it.
Does normalization change FA2E?
Yes. Normalization can replace 郞 with 郞, so the exact code point may change.
Can FA2E be used in a Korean name?
The underlying 郞 appears under 랑 in a South Korean personal-name list, but that does not guarantee every registry or file accepts the exact FA2E code point.
