What 冀 means
It carries 冀’s meanings; FA75 adds no separate everyday meaning.
冀 means “hope” or “wish”; it is also used as a one-character name for Hebei. Older texts use it for Ji Province. An early form of 冀 appears in inscriptions on ancient bronze vessels; 冀 is a later encoded variant, not a newly invented Han character.
Why does 冀 turn into 冀?
It is 冀 in a legacy encoding form.
Unicode includes FA75 in the range reserved for round-trip conversion with North Korea’s KPS 10721-2000 character set. Canonical normalization maps it to 冀, the unified ideograph behind this compatibility form. Use 冀 in ordinary Han writing; retain FA75 only when an older source’s encoding distinction must survive.
FA75 is a legacy compatibility form for preserving older text or handling CJK data; 冀 is the ordinary character for these meanings.
Some fonts make 冀 and 冀 look almost identical; appearance alone cannot show which code point is present.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 冀 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
