What 頋 means
頋 preserves the older Han form 頋. A Taiwan education dictionary entry from 2024 glosses 頋 as “quiet,” says the early Chinese dictionary 說文 omits it, and lists 龍龕手鏡, 玉篇, and 集韻 among later dictionaries.
Why is 頋 used? Unicode retains it so text encoded under KPS 10721-2000 can be converted back without losing this distinction. Chinese dictionaries also connect 頋 to 顧 and 顾, whose senses include looking back and caring.
