What ⻊ means
Radicals help readers find characters in dictionaries.
A radical is a written component used as a lookup key. ⻊ may point to feet or movement in a larger character, but the rest of that character determines its meaning.
An early form of 足 in oracle-bone writing—marks carved for divination on bone or turtle shell—depicts a foot. Later inscriptions on bronze preserve that shape. Dictionaries eventually used the component as a lookup key.
Technical and reference-oriented; it belongs in character analysis, not casual writing.
Use 足 for the complete written character.

1Why does ⻊ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
