What 𡟮 means
𡟮 is a nonstandard historical form of 媐, a character for delight.
The 1716 Kangxi Dictionary, a historical Chinese dictionary, records 𡟮 as a nonstandard form of 媐. Shuowen, an early dictionary of Chinese characters, glosses 媐 as 說樂也, “to delight or rejoice.” Taiwan’s CNS11643 national character database also lists 𡟮 in its variant-character table in 2024.
A Shuowen commentary argues that 天下熙熙 in the classic Laozi and the history book Shiji (史記) should be written 天下媐媐, with 熙 later replacing 媐. A 2023 Unicode review flags a Korean-source mapping whose glyph for 𡟮 matches 媐, so its shape alone may not identify the intended code point.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𡟮 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
