What 𡥪 means
It is a variant of 信, not a separate word.
The base character 信 is attested in early Chinese inscriptions and manuscripts. 𡥪 appears in a reference to characters used on ancient Chinese seals; later dictionaries identify it as a variant with the same sound and meaning.
The core sense of 信 is trust or sincerity; “letter” came later. Pre-Qin and Han texts used 書 for letters. Japanese dictionaries list readings shin, tayori (“letter”), makaseru (“entrust”), and makoto (“sincerity”).
Why does 𡥪 look different on my phone?
Fonts and devices may draw it differently.
As of 2026, its shape may vary across computers, phones and browsers; the link to 信 remains the same.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𡥪 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
