What 𢘇 means
It is a historical variant of 怛.
Shuowen, a character dictionary from the Han dynasty, records 𢘇 as an alternate form of 怛, a character for grief or distress. It puts 心 (“heart/mind”) beneath 旦, rearranging the parts of the same word.
Shuowen quotes 信誓𢘇𢘇 in a note on the Book of Odes, an early Chinese poetry collection. Its familiar line is 信誓旦旦, a phrase for earnest, trustworthy vows. The speaker remembers a promise before her partner’s betrayal, making the line’s confidence painful irony. Chinese scholar Duan Yucai’s commentary reads 旦 here as borrowed writing for 𢘇.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𢘇 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
