Han Character 𢦼

𢦼 has disputed readings. A list of Chinese signs carved on bones for divination reads 𢦼 as 柞 (Mandarin zuò, “oak”), but a 2008 study says the cited graph may instead be 枼 (Mandarin yè, “leaf”), perhaps a place name. The Buddhist dictionary Longkan Shoujian, completed in 997, records Mandarin miè; the Kangxi Dictionary (1716) suspects 𢦼 is a copying error for 灭 (“extinguish”). Keep each reading tied to its source.
