What 𣴽 means
A 2024 scholarly edition reads it Chángtàn. In Mandarin, 長 can be pronounced cháng (“long”) or zhǎng (“grow” or “chief”). The editor chooses cháng because place-name references favor that reading.
The Mù Tiānzǐ Zhuàn, a classical account of King Mu’s travels, preserves that place name. Its text was recovered among bamboo slips from a tomb by 281 CE; that dates the text’s rediscovery, not the origin of 𣴽.
