What 𦮼 means
In 𦮼秆, it means “bean stalk.”
The Chinese phrase 𦮼秆 pairs bean stalks with grain straw as animal feed. In Sunzi’s military classic The Art of War, that example supports the point that getting supplies locally avoids the effort and cost of hauling them over long distances. Other dictionaries also gloss 𦮼 as the name of a grass or as a grain stalk, so surrounding words decide which sense fits.
As of 2024, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education character dictionary says this exact form is not recorded in Shuowen, an early Chinese character dictionary.
How do you type 𦮼?
Use the Cangjie code TSUP.
Cangjie is a Chinese input method that builds characters from their shapes. Sources record two Mandarin readings for 𦮼: jì and qí. Both start with a sound roughly like the “ch” in “cheese”; qí has a stronger puff of air and a rising tone, while jì falls. A sound-based search can therefore miss it.
Why does 𦮼 show as a box?
A box means the font cannot display this character.
𦮼 is text whose appearance comes from a font. A box or blank space points to missing font coverage; it does not change the character stored in the text. Use a font that includes this exact glyph rather than a different character that looks similar.
Its documented examples are dictionary and classical-text uses; it reads as historical or specialist Chinese, not ordinary conversation.
Alone, it gives readers little context for the sense “bean stalk.”

1Why does 𦮼 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
