What 𦾍 means
It names a modest shelter. Mandarin reads 𦾍 liáo; 藔 adds the grass component 艹 to 寮, a hut word associated with thatch.
Why does 𦾍 appear in old records?
This spelling preserves an older shelter word. A poem from the Tang dynasty uses 寮 for a monk’s lodging; Song poems use it for grass huts. From the late Ming, records in Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Hainan use 藔 alongside 寮. Early nineteenth-century land contracts alternate them in hut and settlement names. Some Tang and Song tea names containing 寮 came from place names, not a separate tea meaning.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𦾍 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
