What 𧜈 means
It refers to soft animal coats or fine-haired cloth.
A 2nd century CE Chinese character dictionary, Shuowen jiezi (說文解字), quotes the Book of Documents: 鳥獸𧜈毛, “birds and beasts have thick coats.” The surviving line uses 氄毛.
In his dialect book 新方言 (New Dialects), the Chinese scholar Zhang Binglin records that, in the early 20th century, cloth woven from fine animal hair was called 𧜈 and commonly written 絨.
