cjk unified ideograph-27cda

Rare Han character

31963/42720

𧳚 has two dictionary trails: an old gloss calls it a “beast,” while a Taiwan variant dictionary links it to 猝, meaning “sudden” or “abrupt.” Taiwan’s CNS11643 record gives Mandarin cuǐ.

What 𧳚 means

The Kangxi Dictionary cites the Yupian, a Chinese character dictionary originally compiled around 543, for the gloss “beast”; it names no species. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education variant dictionary also lists 𧳚 as an alternate written form of 猝, meaning “sudden” or “abrupt.”

Why does 𧳚 display as a box?

If 𧳚 displays as a box, the app’s active font may not include it. As of 2026, Taiwan’s CNS11643 record says Windows 10 and later include it in the MingLiU and DFKai-SB fonts.

1

Why does 𧳚 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
