Text symbol

What 𨭊 means

A covered clay vessel above a furnace.

A Daoist alchemy manual—a guide to making elixirs in Daoism, a Chinese religious tradition—calls the support 𨭊. It says to set a sealed clay vessel, or crucible, on it, compares the stand’s four legs to those of an ao (鏊), a flat cooking griddle on feet, then describes raising the fire in stages. The manual is catalogued with an attribution to China’s Northern and Southern Dynasties.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𨭊 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
