What 𨯳 means
It is a recorded spelling of the older word 鑿. Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, defines 鑿 as a tool for piercing wood. A Ming-period character dictionary, 新校經史海篇直音, records the exact glyph 𨯳 in volume 3, folio 21a. Across classical uses, 鑿 names the tool, the act of piercing, and the opening made; figuratively, 穿鑿附會 describes forcing an interpretation to fit. 鑿 is the traditional form and 凿 the simplified form.
