The Kangxi Dictionary cites Longkan Shoujian (龍龕手鑑), a Chinese character dictionary compiled in 997 to help readers work through Buddhist texts, and glosses 𩀡 as “same as 難.”
Shuowen Jiezi (說文解字), an Eastern Han dictionary (25–220 CE), calls 𪅀 a kind of bird and describes a form of 難 with a bird element. Later, 難 was borrowed to mean “difficult.”
