Chinese character qìng (cold)

37344/42720

𩇟 is a historical written variant of Chinese 㵾 (Mandarin qìng), meaning “cold” or “chilly.” The Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese character dictionary compiled around 100 CE, glosses 㵾 as “cold and chilly” but omits this exact character. An early-medieval note to Shishuo Xinyu, an anecdote collection, calls the related form 渹 a word for cold in Wu, a regional Chinese language. Another recorded variant is 𩇝.

Why does 𩇟 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
