What 𩮢 means
It names hair tied in a knot for mourning.
The Yili (“Rites and Ceremonies”), a ritual handbook, lists 髽 in women's mourning dress. The Zuo zhuan, a classical chronicle, says Lu mourners wore it to meet a funeral, marking the custom's start there.
The Han dictionary Shuowen Jiezi, completed around 100 CE, defines 髽 as a mourning knot and preserves 𩮢 as its original graph. Song- and Ming-era texts also use 髽 for a bun gathered on top or at the sides.
