What 𩷆 means
It is a variant of 鱠 for thinly sliced raw fish. In Japanese, 𩷆 uses 会 where 鱠 uses 會; standard simplified Chinese uses 鲙.
The word predates this spelling: the Book of Songs, an ancient Chinese poetry collection, pairs sliced carp with turtle at a feast; the Book of Rites, a ritual handbook, describes finely cut raw meat.
How do dictionaries read it across languages?
Its readings follow each language’s food words. Mandarin 鱠 is kuài. Japanese dictionaries give 𩷆 as なます (namasu), a vinegar-seasoned dish of thinly cut fish or vegetables; Vietnamese Nôm records 𩷆 for gỏi.
Taiwan’s 2024 CNS11643 registry says Windows 10 includes it in default fonts; a blank elsewhere may mean the font lacks the glyph.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𩷆 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
