What 𩼽 means
They preserve separate language traditions. The older Chinese character dictionary Longkan Shoujian records 鯬 (lí) as a fish name; the later Sisheng pianhai lists 𩼽 as another written form. The Song-era Qingyi lu preserves a food anecdote about a courtier’s fondness for it. A Zhuang dictionary (Zhuang is a language of southern China) gives the reading lae, “eel.”
