The 1716 Kangxi Dictionary gives no species. It glosses 𪀜 as “bird name” and cites Guangyun, an older sound-based dictionary. Taiwan’s CNS registry, checked in 2026, gives Mandarin reading lài.
The Yuan-era handbook Yinshan Zhengyao lists 㶉𪀜 among birds; a Qing-era poem later uses 鸂𪀜 with lotus flowers. Neither identifies a species.
