What 𪁝 means
Read the whole word to identify the bird.
Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, calls 鴰 麋鴰, a name for a crane, and analyzes the graph as 鳥 (“bird”) plus a sound-giving part. Later dictionaries list 𪁝 as a variant of 鴰. 鶬鴰 is a traditional crane name; northern Chinese 老鴰 means crow. Dream of the Red Chamber, a Chinese novel, quotes 天下老鴰一般黑 (“crows are black everywhere”).

Questions people ask
1Why does 𪁝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
