What 𪂼 means
It names a bird, but the old gloss gives no species.
Xie Lingyun’s fifth-century poem Mountain-Dwelling Rhapsody lists it among mountain birds. A note ties its name to a same-colored horse belonging to a person called Tang Gong.
The later Kangxi Dictionary credits Yupian, a sixth-century Chinese character dictionary, with the reading xiāng and gloss “bird name.” A Qing-era note says the Zuo Zhuan, an early chronicle, uses 鹴 for a related bird.
