What 𪉟 means
It is a shortened form of 鹽, meaning salt.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Education identifies it as 鹽 with strokes omitted and cites the Yùpiān, an early Chinese dictionary.
The Han-era dictionary Shuowen Jiezi retells an origin story in which Sushā first boiled seawater to make salt.
Why does 𪉟 also appear for 諂?
It was borrowed to write a similar-sounding word.
Warring States-era Chu manuscripts and a later Han-dynasty text on bamboo strips use it for 諂 (“to flatter”). Chu was an ancient Chinese state; the surrounding words show that the borrowed reading means “to flatter,” not salt.
