What 𪕖 means
It begins the three-character animal name. The Fuzhou gazetteer Chunxi Sanshan zhi—a book recording local history and life—was completed in 1182. It describes 𪕖𪕌鼠 as a small, rabbit-like creature with a furry tail that runs along vines.
The 1787 Yongchun gazetteer, also from Fujian, records 𪕖𪕌 as a small, dark animal that climbs vines.
What is the 𪕖 brush story?
It is a story about the animal, not another meaning. The 1182 entry says Wang Youjun (Wang Xizhi, a celebrated Chinese calligrapher) used its whiskers to make a brush.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𪕖 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
