What 𪠊 means
A leading reading is “continue” or “again.”
Western Zhou bronze inscriptions are texts on metal vessels, often preserving formal orders. In one disputed phrase, 𪠊之 is read as “continue it”; other examples concern orders and disputes over land, labor, and legal treatment. That meaning depends on the inscriptional context.
Is 𪠊 related to 廛 or 蟬?
Both, through different parts of the argument.
Some palaeographers identify the shape with 廛, a word for a household plot. In 2021, Qiu Xigui argued that bronze inscriptions use 廛 as a sound-based spelling of 蟬 in its historical sense “continue” or “carry on.” Earlier readers gave comparable forms other readings, including 侯, 矢, 疾, or the descriptive transcription 𢇻, so the identification remains contested.
This is a specialist reading of an old inscriptional graph; “continue” is a proposed historical sense.
Outside a bronze inscription, do not assume it means “continue.”
