What 𪪫 means
One reference glosses it as khó; another gives khú.
A Vietnamese reference maps it to khó; another gives khú without a definition. Treat khó as a recorded interpretation, not a settled reading.
How did chữ Nôm develop?
It adapted Chinese characters and their parts to write Vietnamese.
A periodization proposed in 2019 places a proto-Nôm, or early Nôm, phase in the 8th–9th centuries; chữ Nôm then developed gradually after Vietnam regained independence in 939. From the 10th century into the 20th, Nôm appeared in literature, history, law, medicine, religion, and government writing.
