What 𪻌 means
Usually a badger; regionally, a tanuki.
In Japanese, 𪻌 means 狢, read mujina. In ordinary Japanese writing the word is usually kana, むじな; in some regional Japanese usage it also names the tanuki (raccoon dog), because the animals have been confused.
An entry dated 627 in the Nihon Shoki, an early Japanese chronicle, says a 狢 in Mutsu took human form and sang.
What does 同じ穴の狢 mean?
It calls seemingly different people the same kind.
In contemporary Japanese, 同じ穴の狢 (“mujina from the same hole”) compares people who are alike, often in wrongdoing. It echoes the older Chinese phrase 一丘之貉 (“badgers from one hill”); the Japanese image shifts to animals sharing a den.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𪻌 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
