What 𪽉 means

The base character 畏 is much older. It appears in oracle-bone inscriptions—divination writing carved on animal bones—and on bronze vessels. The variant 𪽉 is recorded in 湖南文徵, a Qing-era collection of Hunan writing.

The Han-era Chinese character dictionary 說文解字 (Shuowen Jiezi) interprets 畏 as a ghost’s head with tiger claws. One interpretation of its oracle-bone forms instead sees a standing ghost holding a stick. These are competing explanations of the old drawing, not extra meanings for 𪽉.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𪽉 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
