What 𪾸 means
A resentful glare, and in classical texts a frown.
The Han-era Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, defines 矉 as eyes opened in resentment. It links 目 (“eye”) with 賓 as a sound clue; 𪾸 is a simplified variant of 矉.
In the Zhuangzi, the famed beauty Xi Shi frowns through chest pain. A village woman copies her face but misses why it suited Xi Shi; the tale lives on in 東施效顰/东施效颦 (dōngshī xiàopín), an idiom for imitation without understanding.
