cjk unified ideograph-2affe

Han character 𪿾

2303/4154

𪿾 is a Chinese-script character documented in Taiwan for personal names, with the Mandarin reading fān. In a name, keep it as part of that person's written form rather than replacing it with another character that sounds alike. Its 2009 Unicode encoding lets digital text preserve the exact spelling.

What 𪿾 means

To preserve the exact written form of a person's name.

Taiwan's 2006 submission to Unicode lists 𪿾 among characters used in personal names and gives its Mandarin reading as fān. The submitters say the government-supplied name entries were checked against household-registration systems.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𪿾 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension C block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
