What 𫃖 means
It records tét in a food name.
Chữ Nôm is Vietnam’s historical script; it took shape after Vietnam regained independence in 939, adapting Chinese characters to write Vietnamese. 米 signals rice; 節 cues the sound tét.
Why is bánh tét called tét?
The name has several proposed explanations.
One traces it to bánh Tết and a southern vowel shift toward tét; another to slicing the sticky roll into rounds with its binding cord.
A legend ties the name to Vietnamese ruler Quang Trung’s 1789 campaign: a soldier offered him a rice cake, and he named it for Tết. In Vĩnh Long in 2024, families gathered to wrap bánh tét and set cakes aside for ancestor offerings.

1Why does 𫃖 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
