What 𫔄 means
It means soft iron, also called wrought iron.
The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary from the Han era, records 鍒 with this metalworking sense. It explains 鍒 using 金, meaning metal, and 柔, which also provides the Mandarin sound róu. Later Chinese dictionaries preserve the same meaning.
𫔄 and 鍒: how are they related?
𫔄 is an analogically simplified written form of 鍒.
It uses 钅, the left-side form of 金 (metal), in place of 鍒’s full 金 component; both spellings name the same metalworking term.
