What 𬁅 means
It is a written form of 虹, the Chinese character for “rainbow.”
A Yin–Zhou bronze-inscription index records 𬁅 as the same character as 虹. Read it as “rainbow” in that historical reference.
How did the rainbow character develop?
The related character 虹 appears in Shang oracle-bone writing.
Oracle-bone writing means records carved on turtle shells or animal bones. A 2020 study reviews readings of 虹’s old image as a rainbow arch, snake, or two-headed dragon, and argues for the dragon. Early Chinese accounts also describe a two-headed creature that drinks from streams. Later Chinese accounts classified double rainbows as “male” or “female” by which color band lay outside. In the later graph 虹, 虫 suggests a creature and 工 supplies the sound.
