What does 𬠷 mean in Chinese?
It is an old written form of the Chinese alligator word. Dictionaries identify it as an older form of 鼍 (Mandarin tuó), the Chinese alligator. In The Classic of Mountains and Seas (山海经), a classical Chinese book about geography and legendary beings, it appears in 𬠷围, the name of a spirit associated with a mountain called Jiao; one passage describes the being with a human face, goat horns, and tiger claws.
Why won't macOS Unicode Hex Input accept 𬠷?
It accepts only four hexadecimal digits. As of 2026, the Unicode Consortium's macOS instructions say Unicode Hex Input cannot enter characters with codes longer than four digits. 2C837 has five, so that method cannot enter 𬠷.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𬠷 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension E block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
